I'm a third year Ba Hons Architecture student studying at Falmouth University Cornwall, on a RIBA accredited and ARB registered course.
I know what you're thinking, he looks a bit old to be an undergraduate and it's true. At 33 along with my family, I made the big decision to retrain. My journey has been a winding one but my experiences have shaped who I am and provided me with many skills that have been indispensable in completing my degree.
Running my own business taught me meticulous attention to detail, good design, the ability to multitask, self motivate and a strong work ethic. From there moving into the building industry gave me knowledge of process', materials, timescales and H.R.
Combining these skills fitted perfectly with the course at Falmouth as it has been strongly centred around design through making. My time at University also introduced me to sustainable design, new materials and pushing the boundaries of them. Along with the principles of Jan Gehl and humanist or people centered design.
These are the foundations I will take forward and build from following graduation be it into the job market if the right offer comes along or back to Falmouth to tackle my Part 2.
